Goals Realized!

About a year ago, while starting to ride again, I set a goal of completing the Illinois Mountain Biking Race Series and being on the podium in my age division at the end of the series. This past weekend, my goals were realized. I was awarded first place overall in cat 2 state championships, and also first place in my age division for the state. Cat 2 mountain biking is not pro or cat 1 level stuff but for a guy who was laid up with a broken neck last March (2012), it feels good to look back on the last season and realize that I was able to recover. To be honest there were more than a handful of times during laying in bed recovering that I had serious doubt in my ability to ride competitively again.

I was only able to complete this with the help and support of others. My wife has been my best friend and made my recovery possible! I wouldn’t want to know a world without her! Also a huge factor being Bloomington Cycle & Fitness, specifically Scott and Caryn the owners for their support throughout not only this season but since I met them. The owners and the staff always take the time to make each visit their a pleasurable experience. Whether adjusting my bike or offering advise or a few words of wisdom, I appreciate them very much. Lastly, my teammates on the Bloomington Cycle & Fitness racing team for hurting me every Tuesday and getting my behind in shape and making me enjoy it every pedal stroke of the way.

Well, Cyclocross season is starting and I look forward to the change of pace it will provide. Next years mountain biking season I will race cat 1 and will be doing my best, but I expect to be towards the back, but look closely and you’ll see me smiling!
